“Kal”, short for Kaleidoscope, is the playful, brave caterpillar who greets every visitor at Bethany Children’s Health Center. Conceived as a living metaphor for each child’s journey of healing and transformation, Kal appears throughout the new four‑story tower in murals, dimensional signage, and discovery moments that turn corridors into story‑rich pathways.
Under the creative lead’s direction, I began to craft Kal’s core personality, color studies, and expression library, ensuring the mascot could convey a full spectrum of comforting emotions.
Produced supporting graphic assets, pattern swatches, type treatments, and icon sets that the designers integrated into room IDs, directories, and feature walls.
Assisted with fabrication drawings and material call‑outs, aligning designs with hospital durability and infection‑control requirements.
The completed package, character bible, floor‑by‑floor graphics set, fabrication docs, and installation phasing equips Bethany Children’s Health Center to roll out an immersive storyscape where Kal helps young patients see their own recovery as an adventure toward vibrant new life. Parents gain intuitive way‑finding; children meet a courageous friend; caregivers work in spaces that radiate wonder and hope.
